What to Expect

Begin at Hele Wai baseyard in Napili, Maui where you will be briefed on the adventure that awaits. From there, we will take a short van ride to the start of the hiking trail.

We will then embark on a one mile hike to the top of Pu’u Kukui Preserve where there is a stunning lookout and plenty of photo opts.

We will stop along the way to take in the native foliage, gigantic banyan trees and ocean views. Duration: 1 hour.

From the top of the mountain, we will begin our descent with a moderate nature walk along the trail leading back to the van.

We will end our tour with a stop at Honolua Bay for refreshments and snacks.

Kevin Schenk

I’m passionate about Maui’s history, ecology and future, and at Helewai Eco Tours we are connecting people with a part of Maui that very few get to experience.

We will take you into the largest conservation land on Maui, the Pu’ukukui Watershed Preserve, and educate you on the battle occurring between our native and invasive species. You will learn what our conservation efforts are about and what is being done to protect this place. Our goal is for every guest to understand the relationship between our watershed, the things that exist in it and our impact on it, so maybe they will discover their own path to malama aina.

Not only do you get an incredible experience hiking through some of the most beautiful forest Maui has to offer, but you get the opportunity to learn the stories, and gain an even deeper passion for a place that is already cherished by many. Thanks for listening and we hope to see you in the Mauna.
